Charity (Zakat and Sadaqah) is one of the foundational pillars of Islam. The Quran emphasizes that wealth is a trust from Allah, and Muslims are obligated to share their wealth with those in need. Zakat, the compulsory almsgiving, purifies a person’s wealth and provides for the less fortunate. Sadaqah, on the other hand, is voluntary charity that can be given at any time and in any form.

In Quran 2:177, Allah commands, "It is not righteousness that you turn your faces towards the East or the West, but righteousness is in one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, and the Prophets, and gives his wealth, despite his love for it, to relatives, orphans, the poor, the needy, and to travelers." This verse highlights the significance of charity as an expression of faith and compassion, emphasizing that giving charity is an essential part of a Muslim's character.

Charity in Islam is not only about financial donations but also extends to acts of kindness, such as helping a neighbor, offering a smile, or speaking good words. Every act of charity is rewarded by Allah, and it purifies the giver’s heart from greed and selfishness. By regularly engaging in charity, Muslims contribute to building a compassionate and caring community, fulfilling both social and spiritual responsibilities.
